Since its inception in 1996, the YCYW Seeds of Hope programme has been in operation for 28 years.

The programme began as an on-campus fundraising effort to support reconstruction after earthquakes. It has developed into a systematic charitable programme that connects character education for students with public welfare assistance.

Over the past 28 years, the Seeds of Hope programme has operated in various locations, including: Lijiang, Yunnan Province; Ziyang, Sichuan Province; Qufu, Shandong Province; Baoding, Hebei Province; Shaoguan, Guangdong Province; the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province; and Manila, Philippines. The programme provides different kinds of support, such as constructing schools and campus facilities, and facilitating teacher-student exchanges. Its goal is to bring hope for the future to local children.

The Seeds of Hope programme is also a cornerstone of YCYW's commitment to service and community engagement. It provides YCYW teachers, students, and community members from around the world the opportunity to connect with unfamiliar locations and people, understand societal diversity, and reflect on the significance of education for both individuals and society.

Dr Betty Chan Po-king, CEO and School Supervisor of YCYW, who initiated the project, said, 

"These actions also reflect the YCYW values we instil in our students. We want to nurture our students to become people of exemplary character, who have compassion, empathy, and a belief in the power of education to transform lives."

For 28 years, these educational ideals have resonated through generations of the YCYW community.

The Seeds of Hope Concerts, which we first held in 2011, embody these ideals. Hundreds of YCYW students and teachers plan and perform each concert. All ticket proceeds go to the Seeds of Hope projects. Students and teachers respond to the call from afar through their actions.

We are pleased to announce that the Seeds of Hope Concert 2025 will take place in Guangzhou on 1 March 2025. This will mark the second time for the Seeds of Hope Concert to be held in Guangzhou, following its 2016 event. The 2024-2025 academic year coincides with the 10th anniversary of the founding of YWIES Guangzhou, adding special significance to the 2025 concert.

In addition to the outstanding performances by YCYW teachers, students, and distinguished alumni musicians, this Seeds of Hope Concert will also feature a joint performance with teachers and students from the yueqin class at Mingtian Primary School in Xichang, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province.

Through the Seeds of Hope programme, YCYW supported the construction of a music classroom at Mingtian Primary School in 2024. The goal of this initiative has been to help students there experience the transformative and educational power of music in a comfortable environment, develop their musical talents, and better preserve the yueqin, an ancient traditional instrument of the Yi ethnic group.
