    • Air quality is a huge concern for parents in Hong Kong. Tackling the issue requires a comprehensive response and a dedicated task force. We are therefore delighted to announce that our YCIS – Secondary campus located in To Fuk Road, Kowloon Tong was recently awarded ‘Excellent Class’ at the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Certification Award Ceremony for the second consecutive year.

The IAQ awards, organised by the Hong Kong Government’s Environmental Protection Department were held at the Hong Kong Conference and Exhibition Centre in June. Excellent Class is awarded to premises achieving optimum results in a wide list of stringent objectives to reduce indoor air pollution. We are extremely proud to be the only international school in Hong Kong to receive the Excellent Class award which recognises our commitment to improving indoor air quality. The award was accepted by our Deputy Director, Ms Winnie Cheng.

The Permanent Secretary for the Environment/Director of Environmental Protection, Ms Annisa Wong, speaking at the ceremony praised property owners for setting a good example and for helping raise awareness of the importance of good indoor air quality management in Hong Kong.

Achieving excellent indoor air quality is critical as it has a direct impact on the students and staff studying and working in our campus. Improving indoor air quality helps towards creating a healthy and comfortable learning environment, free of exposure to certain irritants which can lead to reduced productivity and sickness.

Since 2007 when YCIS acquired the Secondary campus, we have been committed to sustaining indoor air quality best practices. Maintaining efficient air conditioning and ventilation systems, acquiring UV lighting, air-purifiers, furniture and renovation materials with safety certificates as well as the enforcement of thorough cleaning and disinfection procedures have all contributed towards achieving exemplary indoor air quality.

YCIS has been participating in the Environmental Protection Department’s Indoor Air Quality certification scheme since 2013.
