Teachers and parents recently received the exciting news about the major renovation of the Year 6 and Year 7 floors, across two YCIS campuses in Hong Kong. YCIS will be the first Hong Kong international school to adopt the pioneering learning communities’ design concept of US based company, Fielding Nair International (FNI). FNI are world leading architects for educators and have won awards across continents.
The designs have been developed over several months with academic leadership’s input and specialists’ guidance. This project will significantly bring the learning spaces up to the speed of our progressive international curriculum. The YCIS pedagogy and style of student learning hones in on the individual’s learning journey. Flexible learning spaces will be created to provide areas for a range of activities, albeit in an individual setting, peer learning or group settings. Another advantage of collaboration with such an environment is the limitless adaptation options, as per learning objective calls for.
Work is underway, reshaping the floor for Year 6 students. The specially created areas will support: Observational Learning, Information Based Learning, Project-Based Learning, Spontaneous Learning, peer and individual learning. Teachers are excited as the setting shifts from a traditional classroom to a stimulating modern environment geared to match the way children respond to our international education today.
For the Year 7 students, joining Secondary and making that transition, this space will be age appropriate, harmonise and blend the academic and pastoral provisions at YCIS. The long-term campus redevelopment for YCIS-Secondary will span to 2018. We are excited to share this news and you can keep up with all the latest developments by following us on Facebook.
