Lin-gang is dedicated to developing a modern city suitable for living, working, and visiting. The addition of YWIEK Shanghai Lingang has provided new educational impetus to this vision. As the first private kindergarten in Lingang to integrate the best of Chinese and Western education, YWIEK Shanghai Lingang not only meets the demands of local families for quality education, but also supports the government's initiatives to build high-quality kindergartens and promote the policy of "providing quality care for children".

    • Welcome remarks by Dr Betty Chan Po-king

Dr Betty Chan Po-king, CEO & School Supervisor of YCYW; Professor Paul Yip Kwok-wah, Chairman of YCYW; other institutional leaders; Ms Tang Tao, Director of the Preschool Education and Childcare Division at the Education Bureau of Pudong New Area; Ms Ji Xiaohong, Director of the Social Development Division of Lin-gang Special Area Administrative Committee; and other officials attended the opening ceremony.

In her welcome speech, Dr Chan mentioned the continuity of the education that YCYW has established in Lin-gang, which spans from early childhood education to upper secondary education.

"For over 90 years, YCYW has been rooted in China, with an unwavering commitment to lead contemporary Chinese international education. During the past ten years, the YWIES Shanghai Lingang, YCIS Shanghai Lingang, Yew Wah Infant and Toddler Education Centre, and now YWIEK Shanghai Lingang, have become an important part of the Lingang community. The mutual trust and support between Lingang and YCYW have driven the development we've achieved," she said.

    • Address by Ms Ji Xiaohong

Ms Ji congratulated YCYW on its contributions to the development of education in Lingang.

YCYW is an educational organisation with a strong sense of national pride and a profound sense of mission and responsibility," she said. "From the establishment of YWIES Shanghai Lingang in 2015, to the groundbreaking of the permanent YCIS Shanghai Lingang campus last week, and today's opening of YWIEK Shanghai Lingang, YCYW has achieved a dual presence in the area, offering through-train education.

Since the establishment of the first school in 1932, YCYW has explored professional theories and practices to make early childhood education beneficial to children and parents. This was the case during our introduction of the pioneering concept of "learning through play" in the 1970s; to our creation of the unique Yew Chung Approach to Early Childhood Education that blends Chinese and Western educational philosophies; and to our continuing in-depth research on the quality assessment of early childhood education that aligns with China's local conditions.

Over the past 92 years, YCYW's early childhood education has flourished in Hong Kong SAR, the Chinese mainland, and Silicon Valley in the United States. YCYW early childhood educators have worked closely with parents to create a positive, caring, and appreciative teaching and learning environment. The goal is to establish a solid foundation for healthy lives, lifelong learning, and the sustainable development of children.

YWIEK Shanghai Lingang is the newest school of YCYW, and it welcomes both Chinese and international children aged 2-5 years old. At the school, children receive a holistic and balanced education that will enable them to develop not only intellectually, but also emotionally, socially, and creatively. YCYW early childhood educators understand that every child is unique, and they work with utmost patience and love to support the children's healthy growth.

    • Guests explored the campus

"YWIEK Shanghai Lingang will collaborate with local educational institutions and community resources to jointly promote quality education and community development," said Ms Zheng Jingxian, the Principal of YWIEK Shanghai Lingang.

YWIEK Shanghai Lingang spans more than 6,000 square metres, including more than 4,000 square metres in the outdoor area. The kindergarten provides a spacious, bright and natural learning environment for children. The design of the space is based on the feelings and the understanding of the children, following the concept that "The environment is the third teacher". The environment itself thus becomes an educational resource.

The campus includes functional spaces such as creative art classrooms, dance and music classrooms, and a bakery to meet diverse teaching needs and stimulate the children's creativity and imagination. These facilities satisfy the children’s curiosity about the world and offer multi-dimensional experiences. Here, the children can bravely take their first steps in exploring the world.

The opening of YWIEK Shanghai Lingang is a significant moment in the development of education in Lingang. The opening represents another achievement of YCYW's ongoing exploration and innovation in early childhood education. We look forward to working together with more families to create a brighter future for our children.

"We hope that through this new kindergarten, we can provide young parents a trustworthy, high-quality, and diverse educational option, and instill confidence and anticipation for their children's future." ——Dr Betty Chan Po-king
